The main difference between the two is that a straight cool air conditioner unit provides cooling
only. The heat pump can both heat and cool. It can reverse its operation, extracting heat from
the outdoors and transferring it indoors; something an air conditioner cannot do.
Heat pumps are typically extraneous in Southwest Florida:
- Heat function rarely used
- Tend to be 20% more costly on the frontend
- Repair parts are more expensive
Retirees and other people who may be sensitive to temperature changes can benefit from
systems with heat. For everyone else, straight cool air conditioners are ideal for the hot and
humid weather in Southwest Florida.
